1- Broadcast:
- single channel
- all machines receive packet
- packet has address for intended receiver
and others ignore this message
- if it is connected to a subset called. multicasting
2- point to point :
- many channels
- switching devices called nodes
- senders and receivers called stations
- nodes gust move the data( dose not do any to data)
- 1 sender & 1 receiver = unicasting
- Classification based on network scale:
1- LAN :
- owned , in a single office, building or campus
- for sharing resources and exchanging information
- more reliable than wan and man
- 3 types of LAN:
- bus , ring , star
2- MAN:
- bigger than LAN
- cover city
- private or public
-ex: cable tv , connecting many LANs to MAN
-It has 2 cables
- no switching element
3 - WAN:
- long distance(country)
- public
- consist of hosts and subnet
- subnet consist of:
- transmission lines: move bits between machines
- switching elements(routers)
